Altogether 392 waiters and waitresses competed in a century-old game on Saturday in Buenos Aires to test who could serve drinks in a stable and elegant way, as fast as he or she could. Speed and balance were the main factors to be considered by the judges when the participants took bottles of drinks by a metal tray to the table. "The match aims to achieve a better relationship among the employees of our restaurants across the country," said Dante Camaño from the Union of Hotel and Food Service Workers of Argentina (UTHGRA), which patronized the contest jointly with the Association of Hotels, Restaurants, Bars and Cafés of Buenos Aires. The winners at first, second and third places could respectively receive 10,000, 7,000 and 5,000 pesos. "It was incredible to see the level of camaraderie among the colleagues. From the organization and the good weather, we experienced something much more than a competition," said contestant Victor Herrera. The hilarious race dated back to 1912, when it was first held in the neighborhood of La Boca in Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, it ended up in a fight among the jury due to absence of consensus. The most expected tournament of union in the catering industry of Argentina was then put on shelf until 2004.
